West Contra Costa School District is shutting down all libraries, all music classes and all sports teams because they can't come up with the minimum 2.5 million dollars needed to keep the most basic programs in existence.
The War in Iraq has so far cost 105 billion dollars.
That money could have solved West Contra Costa's problems for 10 years, along with another 4200 schools like it.
Instead, it was used to eliminate weapons of mass destruction that never existed, expose terrorist connections that failed to materialize and liberate a people who are in more danger now than they ever were before.
The economic situation in America is grim for most, but for a select few things have never been better; those few who happen to be benefiting financially from the war; the people involved in oil, defense and construction; the same people who happen to be close to the Bush administration.
And to top it all off, they've been given a tax break.
As if that weren't enough, they can't even play by the unfair rules they've created to their advantage. Companies like Enron, Haliburton and WorldCom have had their corruption exposed to the world. And yet it's not their leaders going to prison, but little Martha Stewart who's only crime was lying to the government to cover her ass. Is what she did wrong? Sure. Common? Of course. But is she the real corporate crook of the last few years? Not even close.
Uh... go Kerry
