Pizza Delivery on Wikipedia

Last night, after a couple beers, I searched WikiPedia for an entry on Pizza Delivery. Unfortunately, there wasn't one, so I took it upon myself to add it. I wasn't in the mood to really elaborate too deeply on the subject, so I kept it nice and simple. This is what I wrote:

Pizza delivery is the art of bringing a pizza, or similar meal, to a customer's home in the most efficient manner possible. The five variables that factor into this are; quality of vehicle, knowledge of map, driving skills, route planning, and customer management.

I thought this was genius, especially since the variable thing comes from my screenplay. Too bad the WikiPedia elite didn't share my opinion.

Apparently, in less than 24 hours, my entry had created quite a stir. Upon checking up on my article, I discoverd that there was a debate raging over the question of whether or not to delete the poor Pizza Delivery bit. I checked out the appropriate page for the argument. Here's some of what was said and the corresponding vote:

Keep. Some aspects of 'pizza delivery' (a service) deserve unique treatment apart from pizza (a food product)... like the not infrequent use of pizza delivery as a prank, or as a plot device in porno movies.

Delete, an article could probably be written, but the current one has zero information content.

Keep for now. While I believe in deleting unexpanded substubs, there needs to be the opportunity for growth first. Also, smack Chris Horvath around for posting something with no links and no formatting.

Ouch!

Well, someone (or someones) actually did go ahead and expand the article.

Now that the article is expanded and the needless referring to delivery as an art is removed, I see no more reason to delete this. I vote Keep and withdraw my nomination.

In fact, there's a whole page full of exciting info now.

What's really awesome here, is that, in the end, I got what I wanted; an entry on Pizza Delivery. I am, however, a little offended that my Wiki-peers fail to see the "art" in Pizza Delivery. Oh well, suffer the ignorant.

A Raw Story

Here's an interesting tale.

Throughout human history, people drank raw milk. They didn't choose to have it raw, it just was that way, so that's how they drank it. And all was well as the people enjoyed the many health benefits that this tasty beverage contained.

But then, a little over a hundred years ago, the industrial revolution hit our food supply. No longer were cows grazing in pastures and eating grass. Now they were forced into factories, fed cheap diets and left to walk around in their own manure. Consequently, diseases were rampant in the cows and these found their way into the milk. Millions of people died.

As a result, the dairy industry began to cook, or pasteurize, their milk. This eliminated many of the health benefits of dairy foods, but it also killed the harmful pathogens and so it was safer than the status quo. As an added benefit (and one that motivates the business side of all this) pasteurized milk has a longer shelf life.

But new problems arose as doctors slowly learned the effects of cooking dairy foods; lactose intolerance exists only as a reaction to pasteurized milk, many feel that allergies and asthma are related to it also, as well as countless digestive ailments.

So what to do? Well, the common sense thing is to do what should have been done 100 years ago, and that is to attack the root of the problem; clean up the dairy farms. If you don't have dirty cows, you don't have dirty raw milk and you don't need to cook it.

Sadly, instead of going to the root, people are just extending the branches of the problem and prescribing medication to cure all the health issues associated with pasteurized milk. All that is doing is exposing one hole to cover up another. It's only a matter of years (or months) before we learn that there are new diseases caused by the new medications.

But that's how our current corporate/business controlled system works. Whereas before, all you had was a raw dairy farm making money, now you have a dairy farm, a pasteurizer and a pharmaceutical company shoveling it in. And yet we, as a people, are only getting sicker.

The Hard Loftstyle

Having trouble with the loft design. Who would've figured?

I guess I thought we could just move in and throw all our stuff around and- blamo... we've got a cool pad. Any other idea was far too materialistic for me; after all, I couldn't tolerate the idea of having to buy new furniture just for our new loft. How incredibly wasteful. The furniture we have is still perfectly useful.

But alas... it doesn't feel right. It's uncomfortable. Our feng-shui is all messed up. I don't know if that means that we need different furniture, if we need to rearrange what we have, if we need less or more stuff, if we need to paint the walls, throw down rugs or what- but it's totally whack right now.

I know we can make it better, more comfortable and warm, but we just haven't figured out how yet.

Anybody got any suggestions?
