Lance
(the Owner)
Lance
grew up with Barney, Pete, Jake and Steve, even though he lived in
Piedmont, not Oakland.
This difference in address is not the only thing that makes him the odd
guy out in the crew though, as he is somewhat of a square and won't
even allow himself to curse.
However, Lance inherited Catos from his rich Uncle and as long as the
guys can get free beer, they'll always be pals.
Barney
(the Lover)
The resident dealer and ladies man. Alas, times are changing and Barney's got a new girlfriend that demands a little more than the "young chicks" he's used to dating. We'll see if he can step up to the challenge.
Pete
(the Ringleader)
Rumor has it that Pete is the son of Sonny Barger (Oakland native and founder of the Hells Angels.) Even Jake and Barney don't know the truth since Pete's dad was always out of the picture. But even if it isn't true, it sure makes sense to everyone at Catos.
Jake
(the Romantic)
This beautiful girl came into the pub one Friday afternoon for lunch a year ago and Jake immediately fell in love. However, he was too nervous to talk to her and she left before he could get her name (since she ordered an Apricot Ale, he refers to her as Apricot.) Now his only hope is to wait for Apricot to return and so he patiently sits by the door every Friday at noon. If she ever does come back, maybe this time he'll face his fears.
Hank
(the Drunk)
Hank's a bit older than the rest of the gang at Catos. But he's still a regular and he and Lance have managed to develop an odd sort of friendship. Yet there are many secrets to Hank's past that even Lance doesn't know.
Franklin
(the Genius)
Franklin made some big money in the early days of the internet boom and now he just sits in the pub all day and hacks. For the most part, the crew treats him with respect. Yet none of this has brought him any sort of contentment in life. He sees Jake as perhaps the one person he can truly connect with in the pub and so there begins a new relationship.
Lars
(the Punk)
Lars is a rebel without a cause, but he's actively searching for one. Most of the gang, especially Pete, consider him quite annoying in his quest to change the world. Unlike all the other characters, Lars is not an Oakland native. Like most poseurs, he's from somewhere in the Mid-West.
Steve
(the Achiever)
Steve is the only guy who actually got out of Oakland and found some kind of success. Now he's returned for a visit and, much to Pete's dislike, he's decided he's going to take Jake back with him.
